Sunday        October 3, 2010              Lake Skannatati Circular                                           Moderately Strenuous

In our loop hike today we will see the Little Cemetery on the Beech trail, the Hasenclever Mine, Lake Askoti and Lake Skannatati. Long Path, Beech, Red Cross, ASB are some of the Trails.

From Suffern: @ I-287 & I-87N Interchange exit 15A: Take Rt-17 north 4½ miles, to Seven Lakes Dr., just north of Sloatsburg, NY. Turn right onto Seven Lakes Dr; go 7.8 miles. Parking is on the left (down the hill) along the lower lake.

 

Saturday     October 9, 2010              Bonticou Crag, Shawangunks                                             Moderate or Moderately Strenuous

The approach of the Crag uses a combination of shale roads and paths. The final assent can be made via the easy
“Back Way” or via a short climb “Straight up the Cliff”. On a clear day the broad summit offers views from the Catskills to the Hudson Highlands. An optional hike to Table Rocks is available for additional views. We should have time to stop at the nearby Apple Orchards and perhaps have an early supper in the area. Drive to hike. The hike starts at the Spring Farm Parking Area in the Mohonk Preserve and there is a Hiking Fee $$.

From the South, @ I-87N & I-287 Exit 15A: Take Rt-17 North 15 mi. The Commuter Lot is on the northbound side (right) of Rt-17.

From the North:  NYS Thruway Exit 16: Proceed south on Rt-17 about 2 miles to Commuter lot on the left side.

 

Saturday     October 16, 2010            Bicycle Tour in beautiful Warren & Sussex County    Moderately Strenuous

A leisure ride of 25 to 35 miles on beautiful country roads. Some rolling hills. Bring lunch and water.

Helmets required. Rain cancels

From I-80 Exit 19 (Rt-517): Upon exiting onto Rt-517 north, proceed directly across Rt-517 to small road to Allamuchy. Continue to small town and at 0.2 mi bear left at the Y onto Johnsonburg Rd. Drive on Johnsonburg Rd 0.2 mi to school parking on right

 

Sunday        October 17, 2010            Breakneck Ridge & Taurus                                                 Strenuous

In the Hudson Highlands State Park, east of the Hudson River, are two striking peaks rising above the river. We shall climb both, enjoy the breathtaking views and perhaps find out why the bull broke his neck. Bring your camera and take some gorgeous pictures. The views of the Hudson River and Valley are spectacular at this time of the year.

Sunday October 24, 2010                   IHC Trail Clearing on Schunemunk Mt.             Moderately Strenuous

The club maintains this section of the Long Path, as well as the Lower Jessup Trail. Please come and help us maintain these trails! Bring your lunch, water, clippers and good working gloves. If you do not have clippers you can use the tools provided by the club.       Rain will cancel and postpone to Saturday October 30, 2010

From I-87 Exit 16 Harriman/Woodbury Commons: After tollbooths stay to right for first exit, Woodbury & Rt-32. Take Rt-32 north about 7½ miles to Pleasant Hill Road, (Black Rock Hunting Club sign on left), Mountainville, NY. Turn left, go to first road (Taylor Road) turn left again, proceed to parking lot on right side of road after crossing over thruway.

From Rt-17: Travel north on Rt-17 to Rt-32 in Harriman, NY. Take Rt-32 north 8½ miles to Pleasant Hill Road. See above.

Sunday        October 31, 2010            Round Valley Reservoir                                             Moderately Strenuous

We will take the rugged Cushetunk Trail [red] nearly around the reservoir. Views of reservoir and a good work out to warm you up.         Rain or Foul Weather cancels this hike.

From I-78 Exit 20A: Merge onto Cokesbury Rd southbound and continue 0.3 mi to Rt-22. Turn right (West)and drive 0.7 mi. to right jug handle toward Round Valley Access Rd . Continue southbound 1.7 mi and to Park entrance on left. Look for Ranger station and follow signs to South Parking Lot with year round rest rooms.
