Saturday     June 2, 2012      Culvers Gap to High Point Circular Bike Ride     Strenuous

We cycle through Stokes Forest and High Point State Park on paved roads via Sawmill Pond to Steeny Kill Lake and return on quiet, little traveled country roads. About 33 miles, but can be shortened if need be.

You must call & register to ensure ride is still on.      Helmets Required   Rain postpones the ride.

From I-80 West Exit 34B: Take Rt-15 north about 17 mi. to Rt-206 (Rt-15 ends). Continue straight on Rt-206 north 6+ mi. towards Culvers Gap and Rt-626 at the AT trail crossing sign. Turn right and go 0.1 mi. to Sunrise Mountain Rd., on the left. Take Sunrise Mt Rd to Appalachian Trail Parking lot 200 ft ahead on the left. (GPS 41.1794,-74.7877)

From Suffern @ I-87 & I-287 Interchange Exit 15A: Take R-17 about 6.5 miles north to Tuxedo. Just past the Tuxedo train station, turn right on East Village Rd, cross the tracks and turn left into the large parking lot which is free on weekends

Friday         June 8, 2012          Canoe—Passaic River at Essex County Environmental Center

  Spend the day paddling the mighty Passaic River, NJ's longest river.  We will paddle downstream and upstream from the Environmental Center, (no                    shuttle).  Lunch will be at the Environmental Center.

From I-80 & I-287 Intersection: Go East on I-80 exiting right for I-280. Continue eastward on I-280 to Exit 4A, Eisenhower Pkwy southbound. Continue on Eisenhower Pkwy ½ mi to Eagle Rock Ave. Turn right and drive ½ mi to ECEE on the left.

Sunday        June 10, 2012           AT–High Point to Unionville              Moderately Strenuous

This 9 mile hike travels down from the High Point Monument through New Jersey and New York to the AT crossing on Rt-284.                        Shuttle required.

Meet: 9:00 am      Appalachian Trail crossing: 514 Rt-284 (Unionville Ave); Sussex, NJ 07461

From I-287 Exit 52: Onto Rt-23 northwest. Continue 27 mi. on Rt-23 to Sussex. Just before the zigzag in the center of Sussex, at the light turn right on to Unionville Ave (Rt-284). Then follow Rt-284 North 6.5 mi toward Unionville, NY. The crossing is about ½ mi south of the NY/NJ State Line. Parking is on left. (GPS 41.2884,-74.5521)

    Spend a day paddling on a beautiful lake with a picnic afterwards.

From I-287 North Exit 58: On exiting turn left at light and proceed 0.1 mi to Rt-202 (Ramapo Valley Rd). Turn right (southbound), drive 1 mi to Light where Rt-202 turns right. Follow Rt-202 1 mi to driveway on right. Note! Driveway is at the end of guardrail.

From I-287 South Exit 58: On exiting, turn left (southbound) onto Rt-202 (Ramapo Valley Rd) and continue through town 1.3 mi to Light where Rt-202 turns right. Follow Rt-202 1 mi to driveway on right. Note! Driveway is at the end of guardrail.

We will hike on the Wanaque Ridge Trail with beautiful views over the reservoir. Then return via a 7 mile circular route.

Sunday        June 24, 2012                  Clinton Reservoir, Pequannock Watershed     Moderate

A hike of about 6.5 to 7 miles from P9 to P7 in the Pequannock Watershed area on the Old Coal, Bearfort Waters/Clinton (newly re-located around Buckabear Pond) & Clinton West trails at a moderate pace. Shuttle Required from P7 to P9.

From I-287 Exit 55: Go north on Ringwood Ave. (Rt-511) about 13 miles to Warwick Tpk. at south end of Greenwood Lake. Continue straight-ahead 5 mi. on Warwick Tpk. past Upper Greenwood Lake. Turn left at park entrance. Continue past the Ranger Station 2¼ mi. to the entrance to Beach Parking on the left. Drive left past the Beach Parking Area.
