A ten mile hike out towards Mud Pond with a swim in Lake Awosting. Bring your swim suit!

From the South, @I-87N & I-287 Exit 15A: Take Rt-17 North 15 mi. The Commuter Lot is on the northbound side (right) of Rt-17.

From the North, NYS Thruway Exit 16: Proceed south on Rt-17 about 2 miles to Commuter lot on the left side.

 

Saturday     August 7, 2010                Poughkeepsie RR Bridge Walkway Circular                        Moderate

The walkway over the Hudson on the restored RR bridge is now open. A nice 6 mi hike can be made by using the RR Bridge, trails in Franny Reese Park, the Mid Hudson Bridge and a loop in historic Poughkeepsie. Drive to hike.

Sunday        August 15, 2010              Dunnfield Creek to Millbrook Mtn Circular                         Strenuous

This 10 mi hike will start up the Dunnfield creek trail and head over to Millbrook Mtn with views down to the Delaware.

Continuous Rain cancels this hike.

From: I-80 west to Delaware Water Gap area: Exit for Visitor Center. THIS IS THE LAST EXIT BEFORE BRIDGE TO PA. Follow signs to Visitor Center making a Left at stop sign at end of exit ramp and proceeding under I-80.

 

Friday         August 20, 2010              Canoe-D&R Canal                                                                

    An interesting stretch of the historic Canal both ways.

Meet:10:00 AM   D&R Canal Griggstown Lock Parking, 1273 Canal Rd, Princeton NJ 08540

From 1-287 South Exit 17, (Rt-202/206 South). Drive 1.5 mi to split of Rts-202/206. Take Rt-206 south 9 miles to the Bellemead Griggstown Road (Rt-630) on left. Turn onto it, watch for a right/left jog in road, and drive 3.6 miles. At River Rd (Rt-533), turn left then right again in 0.1 mile. Cross bridge over river and canal to Canal Road. Turn right, drive 0.6 mile to parking lot on right.

 

Sunday        August 22, 2010              AT–High Point to Unionville                               Moderately Strenuous

This 9 mile hike travels down from the High Point Monument through New Jersey and New York to the AT crossing on Route 284.                        Shuttle required.

Meet: 9:00 AM    Appalachian Trail crossing on Route 284; Sussex, NJ 07461

From I-287 Exit 52A: Take Rt-23 North about 25 mi to Sussex. Then Rt-284 North 6.5 mi toward Unionville, NY. The crossing is about ½ mi south of the NY/NJ State Line. Parking on left.

Sunday        August 29, 2010              Pyngyp & the Nickel Mine                                        Moderately Strenuous

This 9 mile Hike goes up over Pyngyp Mtn on the SBM trail, then back to Flaggy Meadow. There will be an optional in/out to visit the Nickel Mine.                                                        Continuous Rain cancels this hike

Meet: 9:00 AM    Tiorati Brook Rd (a.k.a. Cedar Pond Rd.) Parking near PIP, Harriman St Pk, NY 10980

From Suffern @ I-287 & I-87N Interchange Exit 15A: Take Rt-17 north 4½ miles to Seven Lakes Drive, just north of Sloatsburg, NY. Turn right and proceed east on Seven Lakes Drive 5½ mi. to Lake Welch Pky. Turn right and continue 5 mi. to intersection with Tiorati Brook Rd. Don’t continue onto the PIP. Look for the U-turn on left! Make a U-turn back along the L Welch and bear right on to Tiorati Brook Rd. (a.k.a. Cedar Pond Rd.) and continue ½ mi. to parking along road on left.

From Palisades Interstate Parkway Exit 16: Take Lake Welch Pky. for ½ mi; bear right on to Tiorati Brook Rd. (a.k.a. Cedar Pond Rd.) and continue ½ mi. to parking along road on left.

From the West; Rt-17A: Note! No connection between Rt-106 (if its open) & Lake Welch Pky! Use Seven Lakes Dr. at Sloatsburg.
